Full Description

Following a report of bone eroding from a dune face, investigation by AOC Archaeology recorded remains of an in-situ burial. It was oriented east-west in a hand-cut planked coffin. It was initially thought to be the burial of a shipwreck victim, likely dating from the later 18th or early 19th century, but as the burial is of a female this may be less likely. subsequent biomolecular analysis identified the individual as a local resident, aged between 30 and 50, dating to the 17th-18th century.
