Full Description

Site of possible castle/ manor. In 1422 the 'Place of Glencuthill' became a possession of the Irvines of Drum. Eighty-one years later, the Earl of Buchan granted the barony of Glencuthill to Lord Ruthven. Later in the 16th century the lands, which by that time were in the possession of the Bairds of Auchmedden, were described as lying in the barony of Glendowachie. Originally a thanage, later a lordship, it has been suggested, probably incorrectly, that Glendowachie may have been an earlier name for Glencuthill. While the caput 'The Place of Glencuthill' probably lay on the site of the farm, which is now called Glenquithle, it is just possible that it occupied a site further up the Tore of Troup at Castle Fauld (NJ86SW0016).
