Full Description
Site of well. Mess John's Well was a strong chalybeate spring, issuing from a rock about 182.88m west of the Burn of Aberdour. It was famed for its medicinal qualities, and was said to be named after John White, a laird of Ardlawhill who cut the small cup-like basin into which the water flows 'at the time that Presbytery and Prelacy contended for mastery'. OS site visit 1967 found no trace of this well, which was probably destroyed by coastal erosion.
