Full Description

Site of cairn which was removed in 1860. Nine small pits circa 50 cm deep x 22 cm in circumference were exposed, one central to the cairn and eight forming a circle round the margin. The two northern holes each contained a decorated urn circa 50 cm x 15 cm diameter, with a red clay cover about 20 cm in diameter and 5 cm thick. The urns contained cremations and the remaining holes were completely full of bones and ashes. The central hole was quite black 'as if the whole skeleton had been burnt in it'. About 1.82 m north of the cairn were six stones, situated as if set round a grave, lying north-south. A great quantity of black earth was revealed 0.91m below the surface.
