Site of stone clearance heaps, recorded during a walkover survey by Mercer and Ralston in 1989 prior to a proposed extension of Bellmuir Quarry (NJ83NE0181). They occupied flattish summits in hummocky terrain interspersed with irregular channels. They could have belonged to the later prehistoric period. Five cairns were subject to trial trenching evaluation by CFA in 1997. The cairn in Trench 3 was shown to be a conglomeration of three cairns, the easternmost of which yielded 53 small flint flakes but also a piece of post-medieval pottery from the same context. No other cairns produced any artefacts, The cairn in Trench 4 was also shown to comprise three cairns, and that in Trench 5 to be two large cairns. A desk based assessment carried out by Rathmell Archaeology in 2016 ahead of proposed development of Bellmuir Quarry and subsequent field observation noted the site (S39) was no longer present having been removed by quarry operations outwith the proposed development area.
