A trial trenching evaluation was carried out by AOC Archaeology in May 2021 ahead of proposed development (Craibstone Phase 3). The only features identified were in the southwest of the area, in Trench 11 where a deposit containing lenses of burnt material, charcoal flecks and fragments, and burnt bone was recorded. The nature of the deposit suggests in situ fire events. Two cut features were identified under the eastern edge of this deposit, the larger a kidney shaped pit, the second a posthole. The deposit and features are likely to be prehistoric in date, possibly part of a ring ditch structure, although no artefacts were recovered. Within trenches 9, 10 and 12m, a large stone culvert was recorded running east-west. The sides were of up to three courses of stonework, the culvert covered with large capstones.
