Full Description

A programme of archaeological works, comprising trial trenching and test pitting, was carried out by Headland Archaeology in February to March 2018 prior to works associated with the Aberdeen to Inverurie rail upgrade. The excavation identified the modern construction cut and backfilling associated with the A947 dual carriageway to the east. No remains of the Aberdeenshire Canal (NJ81SE0535) were identified within the targeted excavations indicating that it was destroyed by construction of the railway to the west.
