Full Description
A programme of geophysical survey (2012) and trial trenching (2013) was carried out by Headland Archaeology in 2013 ahead of the new Western Peripheral road. Various archaeological features, including pits, were recorded - see NJ81SE0641, NJ81SE0643, NJ81SE0645, NJ81SE0647, NJ81SE0649, NJ81SE0651, NJ81SE0653, NJ81SE0655, NJ81SE0657, NJ81SE0659. At circa NJ 87367 14491 a large pit was thought to have been excavated to bury a large boulder. Furrows were identified in a number of trenches. A watching brief in 2007 on test pitting along the AWPR route recorded no archaeological features.
