Full Description

Trial trenching evaluation was carried out by Aberdeen City Council Archaeological Unit and Alba Archaeology in December 2005 on the proposed BP operations centre. One trench revealed a section of the Aberdeenshire Canal very similar to those seen at McIntosh of Dyce (NJ81SE 0303). Both have a hard-packed bank (possibly revetted) and what appears to be a rudimentary surface (towpath). The location of the section of the canal confirms the line of the canal as plotted in the Aberdeen Sites and Monuments Record.
