Full Description
An archaeological excavation was carried out by the Aberdeen City Council Archaeological Unit in June 2005 on the site of the demolished factory (dating from the 1930a) most recently owned by the McIntosh company (NJ81SE0323). There had been a large amount of water management in the area including the insertion of a large concrete sump which initially confused the interpretation. Remains of the Aberdeenshire Canal (NJ81SE0535) were seen at the north of the site where a 9.1m wide cut feature was recorded. Clay banks were seen on either side of this cut feature. Stones recovered in a trench at the south of the site were probably from a bridge which had taken a path under the canal. The finds from this site are in the collections of Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museums.
