Full Description

Pits recorded during trial trenching by Headland Archaeology in 2013 ahead of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route (NJ81SE0076). Two pits were recorded in Trench NL0555, one produced rare quantities of nutshell, charcoal, cinders and coal, the other cinders and coal. Further excavation was carried out by Headland Archaeology in 2014. A flint chip and seven sherds of prehistoric coarseware were found during machining of a hillwash deposit, and another flint chip on the surface of the underlying deposit.
