Full Description

A watching brief was carried out by Cameron Archaeology in September 2024 during excavations for a cable trench, which included a section across the remains of the Aberdeenshire Canal (NJ81NW0059). A large proportion of the cable trench outwith the canal had been excavated without monitoring, although no features or artefacts were observed in this section. Where it crossed the canal, the trench exposed part of the southeast embankment and a piece of unmarked brick was recovered from the topsoil over the embankment, no trace of the canal channel bed or the northwest embankment was evident within the trench.
