Full Description

Site of a broad L-plan consumption dyke recorded by Headland Archaeology during topographic survey in 2012 ahead of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route. It predated the OS 1st edition map but had been significantly augmented since 1900. Further investigation, including a slot excavation, were carried out by Headland Archaeology in September 2015. The north-south dyke was formed of unmortared fieldstones, largely uncoursed although in places roughly coursed on the west face. Excavation showed construction of two phases, the initial wall smaller. The east-west dyke was of similar construction but significantly smaller in dimension.
