Full Description

A programme of archaeological work was carried out by MAS between 2015 and 2018 ahead of a quarry extension. Trial trenching evaluation and a watching brief were carried out in 2015 ahead of proposed settling ponds. Four trenches were excavated in Area 1 (to the west) in the area of possible pond extension. Approximately half of Area 2 (to the east) was observed as a watching brief during a soil strip. No features, deposits of artefacts of archaeological significance were observed during the evaluation or watching brief. Further trial trenching evaluation was carried out November 2017: ten trenches were excavated but no features or artefacts of archaeological significance were identified. A watching brief was undertaken in June 2018 along a former electricity cable line but nothing of archaeological significance was revealed.
