Full Description

A trial trenching evaluation was carried out by AOC in December 2013 ahead of proposed housing development. A total of 16 trenches (over 10 percent) were excavated, and two stone filled pits of probable 19th or 20th century date recorded, but no other archaeological features or artefacts identified. Subsequent topsoil stripping for the development revealed 11 cut features and two spreads of material in the north east of the area. Excavation showed most of the cut features to be small, shallow pits but these did not appear to form a structure and no dating material was recovered, although they could represent prehistoric activity. Two pits contained 19th - 20th century pottery and glass.
