Full Description
Trial trenching carried out by Headland Archaeology in 2013 (following on from earlier geophysical survey - NJ80NE0555 - ahead of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route) recorded a number of features in this area of possible prehistoric date. Trench SL0843 contained an oval pit, from which a sample yielded a small amount of charcoal and some iron slag. Trenches SL0849 contained a subrectangular pit which contained a small amount of charcoal and industrial residues and a circular pit. Trench SL0850 contained four pits, samples from which produced some charcoal, iron slag and hazelnut shells. To the north was a linear feature extending beyond the trench and containing small amounts of charcoal and remnants of industrial waste; it was possibly a palisade. To the north was a single pit/
