Full Description

Site of a cist (Borrowstone Cist 6), found in 1983 during quarrying and excavated. The cist was built of granite and schist slabs and the internal dimensions being 1.1 m long by 0.7 m wide. The skeleton was inside was well preserved, lying on the left side in a crouched position on the paved floor. Its head was to the east and faced south. Lying on the right forearm on a pad of material was a greenstone wrist guard with bronze metal rivets. The grave goods included a bone pulley ring, a retouched flake and other flints, a quartz pebble and sherds of a beaker. The term cist refers to the box like shape of the grave. This is one of a group of six short stone cists were found on the site of the quarry at Borrowstone Farm from 1976 to 1984.
