Full Description

Cottage or small farmstead, depicted on historic OS maps. The OS 1st edition map shows a single rectangular building, The 2nd edition OS shows two rectangular structures, each within an enclosure. The smaller to the west, if a building, is unroofed. Current maps indicate the eastern building to be still in use, with a complex of sheep pens to the west. Recent aerial coverage shows the building to the west to be ruinous, and what appears to be the remains of a third building. The building to the west is ruinous. This is claimed to be the cottage used as a hiding place during World War I by Percy Toplis 'whose exploits as a first world war confidence trickster and impersonator have been somewhat exaggeratedly written up in The Monocled Mutineer'.
