Full Description

Site of castle or manor of Melrose/Melros/Melers. A branch of the Barclay family owned the estate of Melrose from the 14th-17th century when it passed to the Ramsays. Mr Hepburn included 'Melers' amongst the manor-houses that lay within the parish of Gamrie. The farmhouse is believed to occupy the site of the castle, and appears to have been built in 1751 from the date on the front.
