Full Description

Remains of a depopulated settlement, comprising three houses and a longhouse. House (A) is divided into 3 sections with kiln at east end and connected to north wall is an enclosure bounded by remains of a bank and ditch circa 20m by 20 m. House (B) is 24 m by 5 m, divided into three sections and aligned east-west. House (C) is 23 m by 4 m, divided into three sections and aligned northeast-southwest. A longhouse abuts it at the east end. House (D) is of roughly square construction, 10 m by 10 m, with south wall missing. Possible dykes lie in area, and there is also a stone clearance heap 6m diameter. To the east of the settlement is a kiln (NJ21NW0007). Footings of two of the buildings were also recorded during walkover survey by Highland Archaeology Services in February 2024 ahead of proposed native woodland planting to the east (NJ21NW0059).
