Full Description

Site of a cremation pit and urn. An unornamented burial urn (40 cm high and 38 cm wide) containing a cremation was found during ploughing in June 1885. Excavation of the site revealed a a pit 1.37 m in diameter containing evidence of a cremation. At the bottom of pit was a saucer-shaped cavity, 0.20 m in diameter, circa 0.77 m below surface, formed of clay in which were embedded small stones on which an the inverted urn had rested. The present whereabouts of the urn is not known.
