Full Description
Site of a cairn, depicted at this location on the OS map of 1967. A later small mound of stones was said to mark Gallow Cairn or Gallow Hill, where the gallows for execution once stood. These were most likely connected with the Castle of Crichie and its Barony court. There is now no trace of this cairn and no further information regarding castle of Crichie, though this may have been in the vicinity of Crichie to the south east, where the Cheyne family were said to have had the Barony in the 14th century. The original cairn may have been a Bronze Age burial cairn as the location is good for one.
