Full Description
Site of a castle, thought to be 17th century in date, which stood on Hill of Blairbowie. OS Name Book (1867) records that the landowner removed foundations circa 1850 during drainage operations, which also revealed, near the site, an old malt kiln and a draw well. The site was never published, presumably because Mr Alex Allan, Netherton (the owner) was the only authority who knew anything about the castle, although most people in the district could remember the ruin at that time. Now no trace.
ORDNANCE SURVEY, 1871, Ordnance Name Book, No13(1867) 85 (Bibliographic reference). SAB1360.
