Full Description
Site of cairns. One cairn was excavated by Dalrymple in 1865, in which the stones at the base were larger than those in the upper levels. The stones had been laid on the natural ground surface, which was covered by charcoal and burning marks. In a hole, a cinerary urn was found inverted over a deposit of bone and ash with a flat stone resting on its upturned base. A miniature axe head and a piece of serpentine, marked by use, were also found. This is the sole instance in Scotland of a cinerary urn being found as the primary interment in a cairn. Now no trace but a lot of loose stones scattered along summit of hill suggests there may have been more cairns.
