Full Description
An evaluation was undertaken at this site between the 29th January and the 2nd February in 2007 by Murray Archaeological Services Ltd, prior to development. Sherds of prehistoric pottery were recovered from Trench 3, crushed in an area of charcoal which may have been at the base of a pit. These formed an almost complete pot. Two other sherds of prehistoric pottery were recovered from Trench 5, not related to any feature. No other archaeological features were recorded in the area but this may have been the result of significant earthmoving by the developer prior to work commencing which would have damaged or removed any surviving features. Later dating of the charcoal (alder and hazel) under the pottery from Trench 3 gave a Neolithic date of 4775+/-35BP and 4745+/-35BP. The pottery has been identified as belonging to the Carinated Bowl tradition.
