Full Description

A trial trenching evaluation was carried out by Cameron Archaeology in 2018 ahead of proposed development. A total of 77 trenches were excavated, and eight concentrations of archaeological features identified across four fields. These included at least two circular structures, evidence of hearths, charcoal filled pits and pits with slag. Only two flints and four sherds of prehistoric pottery were recovered. Trench 1 dug was around Camie's stone - see NJ71NE0085. Further excavation was carried out by Headland Archaeology in August - September 2018 (NJ71NE0217) to investigate two areas on the east side of the development site identified in the evaluation.
