Full Description
Two pits excavated by CFA in 2019, following on from identification of features during a watching brief within the cable route corridor for the Moray East Offshore Wind Farm (NJ66SE0330). To the south an oval pit with moderate sides and a soft V-shaped base, measured 0.9 m by 1.4 m and 0.23 m deep, with a fill including charcoal and fire-cracked stones. The phases of use were interrupted by a deposit of natural sand, with waste burnt material in the upper profile. To the north a sub-oval pit with steep sides and a variable concave base, measured 1.58 m by 1.2 m and 0.2 m deep, with a shallow burnt layer that lined the base. The pit showed heavy disturbance from burrowing. Both pits has fills indicative of fire pits. No archaeological finds were recovered in either pit.
