Two pits excavated by CFA in 2019, following on from identification of features during a watching brief within the cable route corridor for the Moray East Offshore Wind Farm (NJ66SE0330).

Two pits excavated by CFA in 2019, following on from identification of features during a watching brief within the cable route corridor for the Moray East Offshore Wind Farm (NJ66SE0330). To the south an elongated oval stone-lined pit orientated northeast-southwest measured 2.7 m by 0.8 m and 0.37 m deep, with steep sides, a concave base and a lining of natural stones ranging from 0.2-0.5 m. It is suggested it may have been more specialised than a simple fire pit. To the north a kidney-shaped pit measured 0.9 m by 0.8 m and 0.41 m deep, with steep sides, a flat base and a fill containing charcoal flecks and occasional angular stones, potentially indicative of a fire pit. No archaeological finds were recovered.
