Full Description

Site of house. Although it later became a townhouse of the Bairds of Auchmedden, this house seems to have been erected for Provost Thomas Ogilvie in 1669. Descriptions and illustrations show it to have been a particularly fine two and a half storey structure. Apart from 'decorated ceilings', which were removed in 1906/7, it seems to have been noteworthy for a series of pedimented dormers. Access to its courtyard was through a round-headed arch which was adorned with an elaborately carved armorial plaque. A bank now occupies the site, but the stone armorial panels and carvings from the house are incorporated into the bank's walls.

Period Notes
