Full Description
Thanage of Aberchirder. It coincides with the parish of Marnoch, and lay to the north of the River Deveron and took in the valley and burns of Cromy and Auchintoul. In earlier times it extended further to the east to Carnousie in part of Forglen parish. It belonged to the family of Aberchirder.
Period Notes
Known to be in existence before 1242. In 1764, Alexander Gordon advertised for tradesmen for village. Population of 350 by 1800; renamed Aberchirder from Foggie in 1823; reached its population peak in 1880.
