Full Description

Geophysical survey (gradiometry) was carried out by Rose Geophysical Consultants in September 2021 ahead of proposed A96 road improvements. Strong geological responses were recorded throughout the area, in particular in the southern part of the area, and these may have masked weaker responses from archaeological features. In the northern half of the area the survey recorded a cluster of anomalies that may indicate possible archaeological features. These are close to the known palisaded enclosure (NJ63SW0022) but there was no clear correlation with the recorded cropmark. In the centre of the survey area a strong anomaly may indicate an oval enclosure with an internal pit, although the feature may be of natural origin.
