Full Description

Remains of a lime kiln depicted on OS 1st and 2nd edition maps. Site visit by RCAHMS 1997 noted that the kiln measures circa 4.3 m in diameter across the top and two springers survive of the mortared arch that formerly spanned the draw hole. Access appears to have been provided by a track from the north and scarps immediately to the northwest probably define a loading platform that measured circa 3.7 m square. Site visit as part of the survey of limekilns of Upper Donside 2002-3 recorded that the front face has collapsed with a spread of stones down the bank, although some of the bowl structure to the rear remains. This was the only farm kiln recorded in the survey which had evidence of a relief arch in addition to stone lintels.
