Full Description

Test pitting carried out to the east and south of Maiden Castle Fort (NJ62SE0002) in 2008 as part of the Hillforts of Strathdon project recorded cobbled surfaces associated with non ferrous metalworking. Fragments of at least four crucibles dating to the Pictish period were found. A fragment of early medieval glass and a stone bead rough-out of Late Iron Age date were also receovered.
