Full Description

A programme of archaeological works was carried out by CFA in 2011 during construction of a high pressure natural gas pipeline running from Burnhervie to Old Rayne. A watching brief was undertaken during soil stripping operations and subsequent mitigation works relating to the features uncovered. The watching brief recorded 8 concentrations of archaeological features - NJ72SW0196, NJ72SW0197, NJ72SW0199, NJ72SW0200, NJ72SW0201, NJ72SW0202, NJ62SE0058, NJ62SE0059 - as well as a number of isolated features. These largely consisted of pits and linear ditches of varying sizes. Material from several of the sites suggests that these are likely to be prehistoric in date, while some did not contain any dateable artefacts.
