Full Description

Circular ditched feature and six pits recorded during a watching brief by CFA in 2011 during topsoil stripping for a gas pipeline. The circular feature, which lay in part outwith the stripped area, had an external diameter of circa 12.3m. Ten sections cut through the ditch showed gently sloping sides and a slightly irregular concave base. Sherds of recent pottery were recovered from the base of the ditch, together with two small lithics. Two of the pits were circular, one containing evidence of burning, a sherd of fired clay or possible prehistoric pottery, some calcified bone and some possible slag.
