Full Description
Site of St James Chapel and graveyard, depicted on the OS 1st and 2nd edition maps. No trace remains of the chapel or burial ground on a slight rise at the edge of two cultivated fields. OS Name Book 1867 recorded that the foundations of what was considered to be an old graveyard were trenched out in 1842, and quantities of bone were found from time to time. The ditch in which walling was seen in 1867, has been partially filled in. Many building stones, presumed to be from the Chapel, are built into nearby dykes.
ORDNANCE SURVEY, 1871, Ordnance Name Book, No75(1867) 10 (Bibliographic reference). SAB1360.
