Full Description
Two pits recorded during a watching brief carried out by Network Archaeology in 2016 during groundworks for construction of a high pressure gas pipeline between Old Rayne and Jericho (NJ62NE0167). One of the pits contained 17 sherds of early Neolithic pottery (possibly the remains of a complete vessel) along with heat-affected quartzite. It was suggested that this was likely to be deliberate deposition of material. The other, circa 24m to the west, was sub-circular, and contained charcoal but no artefacts.
