Full Description
Possible pits recorded during a watching brief and excavation carried out by Network Archaeology in 2016 during groundworks for construction of a high pressure gas pipeline between Old Rayne and Jericho (NJ62NE0167). This section of the route contained a cluster of three possible pits at its eastern end, one of which contained two pieces of prehistoric pottery, two more recent postholes nearby, and a further pit to the northwest. A levelled area against the northern edge of the easement measured 20 m by 7 m, and may have been a house platform but no evidence for deliberate construction were found, and it was more likely to be a natural hollow. Twelve fragments of undiagnostic prehistoric pottery were recovered from the feature.
