Pits recorded during a watching brief and excavation carried out by Network Archaeology in 2016 during groundworks for construction of a high pressure gas pipeline between Old Rayne and Jericho (NJ62NE0167). The small pits were identified spread over a 200m length. Two of the three pits in the southeastern part of the site contained sherds of early Neolithic pottery. A further 70m to the northeast was a tighter group of three pits, two containing pieces of worked flint, including an early Neolithic serrated blade. Two yielded sherds of early Neolithic pottery. Another two pits were recorded circa 130m to the northwest, one of which produced a single fragment of worked flint. Two other features were recorded further to the northwest, one of these possibly of modern date. No clear function for the pits could be determined.
