Full Description

A trial trenching evaluation was conducted at this site in May 2008 by MAS in advance of a proposed housing development adjacent to the remains of the Bishop's manor (NJ62NE0002). This work constituted Phase 1 of the project, with seven trenches excavated primarily to the east of the manor site. Trench 7 was positioned across the ditch moat of the manor, and more details of this can be found in the record of NJ63NE0002. The remaining six trenches revealed a number of 19th century stone drains, the remains of an old dyke line, and possible traces of medieval or post-medieval rigs. No finds were uncovered.
