Full Description
An evaluation was carried over two areas by Cameron Archaeology in September 2010 in advance of a proposed housing development. In Area 1, a 1.5 hectare field to the west of Gloie's Farm, 9 trenches were excavated in which 69 features were identified and recorded. They include u and v-shaped furrows, stone drains, ceramic drain pipes, post-holes, a lead water pipe and a dump of stones. In Area 2, an area 70 x 35m in size with a frontage on the Monymusk to Pitfichie road adjacent to The Square, 2 trenches were excavated. It was anticipated that Area 2 may produce evidence of the earlier village of Monymusk but no buried evidence of buildings survived as they had been completely demolished and the building material removed from the site. However, furrows were
recorded cut into the natural subsoil under the garden soil and under the demolished building indicating that the area had been farmland prior to being developed in the 19th century.
