Summary
A programme of trial trenching evaluation and watching briefs was carried out by CFA Archaeology between September 2022 and August 2023 on a cable route and access tracks associated with Moray West Offshore Wind Farm Onshore Cable Route through parts of Aberdeenshire and Moray (see Moray HER NJ44NE0093, NJ44NW0105, NJ45NE0096, NJ55NW0059, NJ56SW0137).

Full Description
A programme of trial trenching evaluation and watching briefs was carried out by CFA Archaeology between September 2022 and August 2023 on a cable route and access tracks associated with Moray West Offshore Wind Farm Onshore Cable Route through parts of Aberdeenshire and Moray (see Moray HER NJ44NE0093, NJ44NW0105, NJ45NE0096, NJ55NW0059, NJ56SW0137). Evidence of previous land use in the form of field boundaries and drainage/agricultural ditches were uncovered across the site, along with agricultural activity in the form of furrows, plough marks, and stone and ceramic field drains. Only one feature of archaeological significance was identified, a burnt mound at NJ 56717 65265 (NJ56NE0227). A watching brief centred NJ 56713 65292 where the route crossed the line of the Buchan Railway (NJ56NE0054) recorded made ground with a hardcore levelling but no remains of track. A watching brief centred NJ 54833 62674 found no archaeological features.
