Full Description

Powder magazine and two-gun battery depicted on the 1st edition OS map which shows two buildings on the southwest side of an elongate mound. This had been altered by the time of the 2nd edition (revised 1902) on which it is annotated only as a battery. This shows a rectangular enclosure with two buildings set along the inside southwest wall neat the southeast end, a larger building on the inside northwest wall, and a flagstaff in the northeast corner. It appears to have been enlarged to three guns. Site visit in 2022 during Moray Community Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (CCZAS) noted in situ stone and concrete walling in the coastal section a few metres to the east, and tumbled large fragments of mortared stone and concrete at the base of the sandy coast edge.
