Full Description

A test-pit excavated in 2013 by Colin Shepherd, comprising a 5 m by 5 m excavation trench which revealed extensive disturbance. Most of the upper part of the test pit related to 19th century and later disturbance with much evidence of site clearance activity as shown by large amounts of mortar and burnt deposits. Extension of the test pit revealed the remains of a robbed wall defied by a dense compaction of lime mortar. This was one of five test pits: see also NJ53NW0131, NJ53NW0225, NJ53NW0226, NJ53NW0227.
