Full Description

Remains of a lime kiln depicted on the OS 1st edition map. The structure has collapsed with some of the lower structure remaining. The draw hole remains with three lintels in place. This is one of three limekilns in this area (also NJ20NE0017) suggesting a larger scale of production, perhaps with a small enterprise for making and selling lime. The tenant of Burnside of Corryhoul, is said to have transported lime to help build Balmoral Castle in the 1850s.
