Full Description
A test-pit was excavated in 2013 by Colin Shepherd, comprising a 5 m by 5 m excavation sited over an unusual 'ridge; running the length of the garden. This appears to have been an earlier garden path. Beneath this a layer containing much charcoal and burnt material appears to represent some localised industrial activity. At the lowest level of the test pit was a rich silty loam that contained charcoal and a small fragment of medieval pottery, possibly 134/14th century: the base of this layer was not reached by the excavation. This was one of five test pits: see also NJ53NW0131, NJ54SW0163, NJ53NW0226, NJ53NW0227.
