Full Description
Site of earthworks. The site of 'entrenchments' is depicted on the OS 1st edition map and according to the OS Name Book (1871) Bruce's Howe is the name applied to faint traces of an artificial hollows on the northeast side of Cot Hill, and that according to tradition it was a camp of Robert the Bruce. OS site visit in 1961 found no trace of earthworks or hollows, though at that time the hill was covered with gorse and whin.
