Full Description

Site of chapel and graveyard, the location depicted on the OS 1st and 2nd edition maps. The chapel was demolished mid 19th century. The graveyard was in use in the later 18th century but it has also been removed. OS could find no trace of either in field visit in 1961. Described in the Aberdeenshire OS Name Books, 1865-1871, volume 36 (OS1/1/36/14) as: ‘The site of a Roman Catholic Chapel, situated a few chains to the north of Brawlandknows (Aberdeenshire HER NJ53NW0157), the date of its erection cannot be obtained, but the walls which was about two feet high, was standing up to the year 1847 when they were removed by Mr Mennie of Brawlandknows for building purposes, who it was dedicated to, or whether it had any dedicatory name, is not known, not a vestige now remains.’. Mr Mennie is described as having used the gravestones to build the Mill of Collithie (NJ53NW0220).
