Full Description
Site of cairns. Upwards of 20 tumuli were destroyed circa 1846 during land reclamation. Each consisted of a 'continued series of upright stones' about 2.4m in diameter, with, in the centre, 'a grave of unusual dimensions', some cut into solid rock. Burnt bones and ornamented urns with calcined bones were found. On the 1867 and 1888 OS maps the site of a 'causeway' is marked in this area leading from 'the site of a stone circle' to the site of tumuli'.
