Full Description
Possible site of stone circle or cairn. OS Name Book 1866 notes this as traditionally the site where two packmen shot one another here and were buried where they fell. No trace of 'Chapman's Grave' was found by OS in 1967 but numerous fairly large stones were noted lying on fence line immediately to south of the published site. These may testify to the former existence of a stone-built feature here, possibly a stone circle (NJ 5718 2883).
ORDNANCE SURVEY, 1871, Ordnance Name Book, No46(1866) 47 (Bibliographic reference). SAB1360.
